The Sefirah of the Parshah - the Kabbalistic Meaning of the Weekly Torah Portion (Breishit)

From Rabbi Shlomo Barya Schachter:

Among the core teachings I received from my father, Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi z”l, was that the Torah itself shares the same anatomical structure as the human being and the year.

This anatomy is expressed through the Sefirot — specifically, the forty-nine combinations of the seven lower Sefirot that we attune to while counting the Omer.

By pairing certain traditionally conjoined parshiot, the Torah’s weekly portions can likewise be mapped onto these forty-nine Sefirotic combinations: beginning with Bereishit as Chesed sheb’Chesed and culminating with Zot HaBrachah as Malchut sheb’Malchut.

In this weekly series, we will briefly explore these correspondences and consider how each parshah illuminates its corresponding Sefirah.

In this first video, I discuss the deeper kabbalistic meaning of the very first portion of the Torah - Breishit - and its correlation to the quality of Chesed shebeChesed - the Expansive Generosity of Loving Oneness.
