Shekhinah My Beloved
Shekhinah is a redeemer of souls
and a force for goodness.
Shekhinah does not get angry.
She is not a punishing God.
She dwells in Heaven
but descends at the divine calling.
May I open my eyes every morning
to Praise you, Shekhinah,
And to behold the splendor of Your Light
To be held in your arms
And to feel your unending Love.
To have the freedom to worship you.
When the Temple was destroyed,
Shekhinah went into exile with her people.
She mourned with the Sun and the Moon
for the light in them had become darkened.
Shekhinah is in our midst, not hidden.
She is a touchable Presence
and has a feminine aura
that draws us to her,
that caresses our hearts.
Kohelet dismisses these acts of intimacy
but our intentions are pure.
And purity of heart does not invite vanity.
The Sefer Yetzira says there are sparks like lightning
that move to follow God's Word,
back and forth from sacred center,
thru depths of sephirot, and out into endless reaches.
It is called running and returning.
Sephirot are like “wheels of the divine chariot,
moving in response to God's direction”
and moving between Oneness and fragmentation.
Is there room for human imperfection
in this chase after the divine will?
The Shekhinah will play her part.
It is beyond our scope to experience the Ineffable
but we feel these dynamic forces
that run between Divine and human,
from finite to infinite;
maybe the basis for creativity and possibility.
If the Shekhinah is our bridge to Infinity,
She is the perfect Being to hold our prayers
and bless our acts of Tikkun.
