The Stayed Hand - Parshat Vayera
Ahava arrives late in Torah.
What is the meaning
Of families established
Without mention of love,
In numbers beyond
One man,
One woman;
Generations enough
And into cities?
Where is the love
In all of this?
Where is the love as
God destroys Sodom and Gomorrah;
God rebukes an elderly woman for laughter;
God orders a man
To kill his [only] son;
The son that he loves?
The son placed
On a sacrificial altar?
A murderer’s hand
Stayed.
Eyes raise up.
A possibility presenting,
Hidden in full sight
Somewhere upon the land
Before its horizon.
Twice daily:
Our declaration;
As well as our mandate:
God is in all things:
All things are of God.
The trees;
The skies;
The waters;
The destruction;
The chastisement;
The murmurings, low,
Instructing us to kill.
Baruch HaShem for paradox.
Baruch HaShem for mysteries revealed.
Baruch HaShem for God needing us.
Ours is a relationship
Of synergy.
We are here
To help God evolve
Into God’s greatest potential.
And we are here
To learn how to
Always choose love,
To lay down our sword;
To become the embodiment
Of the Moral Code of the Universe.
We are the children,
Of this realm,
Who are meant to go further
Then Our Parent ever could.
We are here
To be the hand
Stayed because
We choose
Love.
