Wonnil Tent

A wonnil is a type of Australian myrtle also called weeping willow or Australian peppermint. It has a long weeping habit like a willow.

Wonnil Tent

I sit in this wind-torn shelter.

Its sides are soaked in rain.

A part of the roof suddenly

shifts.

A wonnil leaf reaches down

gently, touches my cheek.

I ask - what does Life require of me?

You answer - to be happy -

deeply, wildly happy,

like a child in a swing made of willow branches,

swinging out over the lake -

the kind of happy that settles right into your bones,

that soaks your heart.

It is not a perfect shelter,

but it was made with love,

and that is enough.
